black. I have always found that but
little use is made of the organ in France,
even on those days when it is most em-
ployed. The serpent keeps the voices up
to their pitch, and is a kind of crutch

As it was Jubilee-Time* when I was
at Lisle, I had hopes of hearing better
music than ordinary, but was disappoint-
ed.
