Signor Celestini played, among other
things, one of his own solos, which was
very pleasing, though extremely difficult,
with great brilliancy, taste, and pre-
cision.

Saturday, Sept. 22. This evening Mr.
Beckford, to whose zeal for the business
in which I am embarked I have infinite
obligations, made a concert for me,
consisting of twelve or fourteen of
the best performers in Rome; these
were led by Signor Celestini. There
were three voices, Signor Cristofero, of
the Pope's chapel, who sings very much
in Guarducci's way, and is little inferior
to him in delicacy; il Grassetto, a boy,
who submitted to mutilation by his
own choice, and against the advice of his
friends, for the preservation of his voice,
which is indeed a very good one, and
he is, in other respects, a very pleasing
singer; and a buffo tenor, a very comical
fellow.
